Cold hard wax: According to Taylor, a hair removal specialist at Spruce & Bond in NYC (formerly Completely Bare), hard wax applied to the upper lip is best because it's gentler and safer than hot wax. "You might not get all the fine hairs, but you also won't risk tearing your skin as remove the hair," she says. A few notes for at-home waxing newbies: If you are on Retin-A or Accutane, you shouldn't wax. Never wax any area that has a sunburn or compromised skin. Prep the skin with baby powder so the wax sticks. Pull the strips off in the opposite direction of hair growth. Don't pull up — try to pull parallel to avoid pulling skin. Use aloe vera afterward for soothing.Try: Veet Facial Hair Remover Cold Wax Strips, $10, drugstore.com

I discovered my passion for research when studying for my degree in Medical Imaging. Once graduated, I worked as a diagnostic radiographer and as a member of the hospital’s gastrointestinal imaging research team. I love learning about new technologies, particularly in the health and beauty field, and enjoy writing about how they can benefit both our every day and long-term health and well-being.
That said, it can take a little longer to fully work on thicker hair. "Some hair is just very resistant, and sometimes new ones come out due to hormonal changes or other hair bulbs becoming active during the treatment period," explains Dr. Birnur Aral, Director of the Good Housekeeping Beauty Lab, who has personal experience with laser hair removal.

Another thing I need to tell you is that, over the weekend, a lady that follows me on here, contacted me and successfully got the Tria 4x laser sent to her in Australia. As I live in Australia myself, I’ve been trying to help my fellow aussies, get the Tria sent to them and now there is a way. Do let me know if you want the details and I’ll email them over to you Regards, Gabby
How you remove unwanted hair is largely a matter of preference. Some of our women testers found that using an epilator or hot wax was painful, while others said that depilatories smelled bad and were messy. And those who had previously used razors weren't happy with any electric shaver they tried. Different methods work best for different people, and you might have to try several before you find the one that's right for you.
But he does note that improvements in manufacturing have brought us "sharper multi-blade options and metal coatings that minimize razor burn." Another advancement, though less scientific, is the razor extender, like the bakBlade ($30, Buy It Here). Dr. Fromowitz says that some of his patients use the device and report that it is good on its claim—to help you shave your own back, that is—but it’s still a razor at the end of the day, sans the precision and dexterity of a scrutinizing hand. (And where’s the device that applies aftershave lotion to your entire back?)
Hi Grainne, of course! First of all, if you have very pale skin – you have the best skin color for laser/IPL hair removal which is awesome!!! I totally understand the stubble you are talking about. This is the exact reason why I got into laser in the first place because of the stubble that was left and it annoyed me sooo much and also because my skin is on the sensitive side and waxing, left my skin sensitive with red pimple like irritations and shaving left my skin feeling sensitive and pin like afterwards. So I totally get how you feel Since you have the perfect skin tone/hair color combination you are pretty open to use any of the machines I have suggested on my site, I have ranked them in order of effectiveness so you pick what suits you best as everyone’s preference is different. I’m a Tria girl but I can also appreciate the Remington is quite good, I’m going to upload another review soon of the better version (and slightly more expensive) Remington i-Light which is actually better in performance than the Remington I-Light standard > this is it Remington Quartz. Any other questions, do let me know.
If you’re one of those women who shave once every two weeks, you can just stop reading now. Before you go investing in laser, we’ve rounded up the top-rated hair removal devices across the web that’ll help you maintain a smooth facade right in the comfort of your own home.

One such advance is that more people can safely have laser hair removal. In the past, only people with dark hair and light skin could safely have laser hair removal. Today, laser hair removal is a treatment option for patients who have light-colored hair and light skin and patients who have dark skin. Laser hair removal must be performed very carefully in these patients. Dermatologists know what precautions to take to provide laser hair removal safely and effectively.

Waxing can be performed at home or by a professional in a salon. It involves applying a layer of wax to the area where hair removal is desired. When the wax is pulled off, the trapped hairs are pulled out. It can be painful, messy, and hairs may break off during the procedure, leaving a few behind. It can be used on eyebrows, upper lip, back, bikini areas, and legs. As long as the hairs are removed with the bulb intact, one can expect similar results to plucking. Risks include: superficial burns, infection, or stripping of the first layer of skin (rare).
I've only got the chance to use my verseo once so far & it was about 4 days ago & the hairs were falling out immediately after treatment! I used tweezers to pluck the rest out and I could not even feel it! They slipped right out. And this was only my 1st treatment! I am posting how each treatment & results turn out on my blog. Anyways, the treatment was about 4 days ago and I still have NO hair there! I was amazed really. LOL, I love it so far. It is 100 percent painless and every other hair remover like this is very paiful! I barely felt a tingle and wouldn't have even felt the tingle had I not been paying close attention. The tweezers however, are awful! You can not even squeeze them together they are too tight or something you have to use so much pressure to tweeze & then you end up plucking your skin instead. I love that the product really does the work for you. It is hands free (unlike others) and you can do as you wish while it does the work. (Manual Entry From Previous System. During the session, many compare the feeling of the laser's pulse to the snap of a rubber band. Over the course of the next 1-3 weeks, the treated hair falls. The process requires a series of treatments, but results can be seen after just the first time, proving how effective even just the initial treatment can be. With every treatment you'll progressively see fewer and fewer hairs return. Finishing the entire series of treatments is crucial, as that ensures that you see the highest degree of permanent hair reduction. Stop worrying about the constant upkeep and start enjoying the freedom of silky smooth skin, year-round.
HPL offers a safe, at-home solution for most male hair removal concerns. You can even use it on your face so long as you do so below your cheekbones. This can help if you want to crisply define your beard line, for example. However, it’s not recommended that you attempt to remove all your facial hair using HPL. Although the prospect of never shaving again can be appealing, the result can look a little unnatural. When it comes to getting that clean-shaven look, there’s no substitute for a good old-fashioned razor.
How to use it: This product should be applied in an even layer, but there's no need to work it into your skin (nor should you). After four minutes, do a test by rubbing a little off with a soft cloth or tissue. You can leave this hair removal cream on your body for as long as seven minutes. The manufacturers do suggest  wiping product off, rather than scraping. Then rinse and pat dry.

Laser hair removal is performed while the target area is numbed by a topical anesthetic. A handheld device that emits intense laser pulses is moved across the area, focusing on individual hair follicles. There are several different methods of laser hair removal, some of which combine laser impulses with radiofrequency. The appropriate method for each patient is decided in consultation with the physician administering treatment.
