If you can’t hack the goat milk, in my opinion your next best option is whole cow’s milk…again just be sure you’re okay with the carb content (the 26 grams of carbs per serving may be the only carbs you can consume for the whole day if you’re strictly keto, so obviously you’re going to want to get those carbs from more nutritious whole foods). If you’re going for ketones here, obviously you’re going to want to stick with the heavy whipping cream route.

To cut the eggy taste in low carb bread I was told by someone to BEAT eggs & milk together, & it worked wonderfully…..BUT since there isn’t any milk called for in this recipe you can’t do that. So, I’m wondering if it would work to use 2 eggs, instead of 3, & then add about 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream to beat the eggs in before adding the other ingredients? The moisture content should be about the same, & the HWCwould be thicker than using water or milk. Might be worth a try.
I made your bread yesterday. You are right–it IS the best tasting keto bread yet! And I’ve made dozens of recipes through the years! I enlarged it–made a recipe and a half, and used a 9×5 glass pan. I confess, I did make a mess of it at one point. I used carton egg whites, and they didn’t do as well as fresh egg whites do. I ended up with a lot of foam on top and liquid on the bottom. I tried adding the dough to it, but had trouble smoothing out the many lumps. Soooo, I used my hand mixer to mix the whole mess. I put it in the pan and decided to just throw it out, thinking it could never turn into a good loaf of bread. But I went ahead and put it in the oven, and it turned out great! The rise was higher than any other almond flour bread I’ve ever made. So it’s obviously a very “forgivable” recipe. Many thanks!!

You’d need just a tiny bit of xanthan gum, try 1/4 tsp and see how that goes. You can always add more if that isn’t enough, but the texture won’t be good if it’s too much which is why I recommend starting with just a bit. A little goes a long way!

Nutrition data for both coconut milk and almond milk are obtained from NCC (Nutrition Coordinating Center), which is a comprehensive database operated by the University of Minnesota.

So, things I learned today making this recipe. #1 – I used the Blender Bottle I make my protein shakes in, worked like a charm. #2 That cute little jar of salt in my pantry looks EXACTLY like that cute little jar of erythritol in my pantry and really should be labeled to make sure nothing like my first batch ever happens again. Holy cow was that awful! Two tablespoons of salt is horrible, my friends! Make sure your pantry items are labeled accordingly. You know how you’re looking forward to licking that spoon after you make this and spoon it into your container? That was me, until I did with that first batch. I’ll probably have nightmares about how awful that was! The second batch, made correctly, is off to a much better start 🙂

For me it is a little different, I stopped eating Bread, rice last year and ofcourse sugar. Then I stopped most of the potatos and pasta. Maybe on of the once a week. Everything fine! Then last month a tried the 5 day water fast, used some salt every day, Keltic salt. The last day at the end I started to feel like having a flu. Before I started the fast, I have to mention, I was in full Keto. So 2 hours before the 5 days ended, I stoped. It took 16 hours to feel better.

Followed recipe exactly, even used free-range organic eggs and grass fed butter. Lacking a truly bread-like texture, egg taste overpowers anything put on the slice. Hi, Teresa K. I stumbled across a new sweetener by accident, called Sola. After reading the info on the Sola website at, I found that one of our local grocery stores carries it, and I decided to try it. It is a little pricier than some of the other sweeteners out there, but it tastes awesome. (In Texas, a 16 oz package retails for $8.99.) I haven’t tried any that tasted like dust to me, but most have a bitter aftertaste, including all of the stevia products. (Swerve was good also, but is very difficult to find in my area, and just as pricey as the Sola.) The Sola website has a $1 coupon, and there is also a $3 rebate on the Ibotta app. (The Sola site didn’t show my local store for the coupon, so I clicked on one of the others, printed the coupon, and it worked just fine.) I have not made this recipe yet, but a close friend has and loved it! She used a blender to powder the Sola.

Keto is a very low carb diet, often it means no more than 20 net carbs a day. I had been low carb for 4 years prior to going keto a year ago, my daily carb intake was 50-70 grams a day and the carbs were coming mostly from non starchy vegetables. But yet even being lower carb than the standard American diet, it wasn’t enough for me to still not crave sugar and carbs.
This was delicious! It will be my new go to easy dinner from now on. I did make a couple of changes though. I swapped the pickles out for jalapenos, doubled the bacon, and added a dollop of Primal Kitchens chipotle lime mayo on top of my serving along with some hot sauce and it was perfect! It reminded me a lot of In-n-Outs animal style cheeseburger.
goofypammy I DID use almond flour since I didn’t have any coconut flour.  I did not experience them being crumbly.  Being heavy…I don’t know.  I’ve since bought coconut flour so I’ll see whether there’s a difference. I did follow some other comments by adding a little vanilla, the 1/2 tsp baking powder, and some cinnamon.  I just know these are really really good!

Hi Mika, Sorry it didn’t work for you, but it sounds like what you did has different ratios than the recipe. It doesn’t really round out evenly to 6 or 9 servings unfortunately. I haven’t experienced the texture you are describing but have never tried it with those ratios. If they are dry for you, you could try replacing some of the milk with melted butter or a neutral heat-safe oil (like avocado or coconut oil). Adding more vanilla or some add-ins (like blueberries or chocolate chips) can also help.
This was my first time baking anything EVER and it turned out perfectly! I do find that the bread does taste a tad “eggy” but it’s soft and a perfect replacement for sandwich bread. I can finally have grilled cheese sandwiches again!! Next time around, I’ll double the recipe because the bread was smaller than expected. Thanks for this amazing recipe!

Just made these, and they were WAY good! I’ve been GF for years, but went keto/sugar free last year, and I’ve been missing pancakes lately. I researched several keto recipes, but they were all either almond flour based, OR coconut flour. Nice and firm. Baked it on the recommended temp, added 6 or 7 minutes. Pressed the middle and it was great. I let it cool. What was nice about it was obviously it’s low carb bread…hurray for that, but it cut well. Got 18 slices easily about 1/2 inch thick without breakage. Most importantly, it wasn’t greasy, or almond tasting overload, just delicious.

I loved this recipe made it yesterday and had a piece today, it was so good. Made a few changes like adding Carmel syrup sugar free to the filling wasn’t quite enough but will add more next time. I also used almond flour and finely chopped pecans for the crust that were toasted in a pan till golden brown before adding spice and butter. It has a better taste to me.

Although the flavor is a little different than Mom’s version, I’m pretty happy with how this keto chili recipe turned out. It’s super easy to make because you just throw everything in the slow cooker or Instant pot and let it do its thing. Then, just layer on your favorite toppings and you are set to dig-in! We added some diced onion, tomato, avocado and plain coconut yogurt. If you eat dairy, feel free to add on some cheese and/or sour cream.
This is an unbelievable recipe. Unbelievable in a GOOD way! I followed the recipe exactly as stated, and what came out were the most golden, delicious pancakes that seriously rival any I’ve ever had at the best diners. I’d even say these are better. The fat used in the recipe (butter) and in the cooking (coconut oil) add so much in the way of texture and flavor. I made four pancakes out of this recipe. The very first one was a little burned, but that was because I had the heat too high. My fault. I quickly learned, lowered the heat, and the remaining three came out perfect.

I topped mine with sugar free raspberry preserves and sugar free syrup. I use Walton Farms for the syrup and Smuckers (I think) for the preserves. I also experimented on one pancake with some sugar free mini-chocolate chips. Everything about this recipe is a win and they cooked perfectly for me with a pre-heated skillet and letting the batter rest.

I hold the record for the world’s largest sweet tooth. It’s been measured! I could eat sweets for every meal of the day and go to bed happy. So when I started eating keto, I obviously cut out sugar all together and needless to say, I was irritable. But that was to be expected- sugar is highly addictive and when you take it away after so many years, you get withdrawal symptoms. As with all addictions, it takes time and effort to heal the body. After a few grueling days, maybe a week, the sugar cravings started going away. At the peak of my keto dieting, I never even thought about dessert. My body was running perfectly fine without that brownie for dessert daily.
Protein: When people first reduce carbohydrates in their diets, it doesn't seem as though the amount of protein they eat is as important to ketosis as it often becomes later on. For example, people on the Atkins diet often eat fairly large amounts of protein in the early stages and remain in ketosis. However, over time, some (perhaps most) people need to be more careful about the amount of protein they eat as (anecdotally) the bodies of many people seem to "get better" at converting protein into glucose (gluconeogenesis). Just made these this is my 5th different pancake recipe and this one is the final keeper ,wow did not taste eggy you can't taste the coconut flour it just tastes like a good pancake I opted for the softened cream cheese added just a hint of water because it looked a little bit thick maybe a tablespoon and they came out perfect. Thank you so much living this keto lifestyle one has to pick and choose the right recipes the ingredients are expensive so you want to make sure it's the right one in this is it

Your New York Style Keto Cheesecake recipe looks AMAZING and I’m thinking about making it for Thanksgiving next month but I’m a little confused about the measurements for some of the ingredients. I know enough about baking to know that measurements for baked goods need to be exact (as, say, compared to cooking). I’m not an intuitive baker (or really a baker at all!) How would you suggest I accurately measure 4.17 tbsp (the butter) 0.83 cup (Swerve), 0.63 cup (sour cream), 1.67 tsp (grated lemon zest)?

I tried this bread and found it very good. I have been Gluten Free for 11 years and have been subjected to all kinds of lousy GF bread. Regular GF bread is out on a Keto diet so I was pleased to find this recipe. This slices nicely and toasts well and doesn’t spoil quickly. I didn’t find that it tasted like scrambled eggs at all like someone commented. Perhaps they did not mix it well enough.

I made these last night but used granular Swerve instead, as that is what I had. I was a little light handed with it – so maybe a quarter inch below top on my steel 1 cup measure. I was still worried it would be too sweet due to the difference in granular and confectioners. It actually turned out perfect for us. Husband and I both love them. Crust held together, but was really buttery and a little loose while still warm, but so, so good. Stored in fridge, it firmed up nicely and is delicious cold as well. A great recipe. Will order the powdered erithritol for next time.

hi I have been following this diet have not had any sugar and I just want to know how am I going over the carbs I’m eating vegetables which I know are carbs but I’m not overdoing it. What is the best way to keep up with your carbs fats and proteins also do I need a scale? I feel like I lost weight this week but most of it was probably water weight I was in ketosis on Thursday and today it shows I’m not. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I’m not a huge fan of sweet breakfast, so pancakes are really not something I’d make. But these I like. And by that I mean I get up 15 mins earlier than usual to have time to cook this every single weekday. What I do, is make the pancake batter (skip the stevia and add a pinch of salt) and let it sit while I cook some bacon in the pan. I save the bacon fat, and cook the pancakes in a mixture of bacon fat and coconut oil. Super tasty and keeps me going easily till lunch! I’ve made the sweet ones for dessert crepes, with lots of cinnamon and ground vanilla. Will have to try the apple butter next time. Yum!

This article is excellent and I’ve actually read it a few times just to make sure I’m absorbing as much as possible. With that said can we talk a bit about protein? Why does it seem like protein is taking a back seat? What about the athlete who needs to maintain and/or increase muscle mass. I don’t want to make any assumptions and with all the research I’ve done along with personal testing into Keto it just seems to me that protein and its benefits are not a discussion point in this diet. Made this for the first time last evening and wow… so simple, so fast and SO tasty! Hubby loved it too and commented on how delicious it was. I modified the recipe by adding 2T diced canned chili peppers, and topped it with shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream and chopped avocado. I found this recipe today while researching keto ice cream and it looked so easy I made it right away. I am lactose intolerant so I used coconut milk (refrigerated, drained of liquid leaving the solid coconut cream), added 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, an extra tablespoon of cocoa powder and a pinch of salt then blended it using my immersion blender. I tasted it before I put it into the freezer and the mixture was incredibly smooth and tasted so good! It will be ready in 2 1/2 hours and I can hardly wait..

I have a serious sweet tooth, my boyfriend does not. I didn’t enjoy these pancakes on their own but my boyfriend really liked them. He eats them with cheese melted on top! The texture was similar to a wet, slightly gritty pancake, maybe even french toast. I cooked mine in butter so they did have a nice butter flavor but the egginess was still there. They did get the nice crispy brown edges like pancakes and were “spongey” like a pancake. I think if I make them again, I will add more sugar substitute, maybe some cream cheese, and use one less egg. Thank you for the recipe!

You actually give us a plan to get started and I love your humor :) I’ve tried living keto before but it was the diet along with a lot of supplements and nasty shakes…it wasn’t for me! I don’t like drinking my snacks and meals just to get into ketosis! Looking forward to trying this again and trying your recipes!

Tried them this morning, used the sugar instead of stevia (hate), next time will only use 1/2, used snickers sugar free grape jelly as my syrup and they were delicious.  Would not have known the difference if not for the coloring, flour and cinnamon makes them darker.  Batter is more than I needed for one meal, so looking forward to tomorrow’s breakfast.  Going to try freezing next babatter.  Thanks for a great recipe.

I just tried this recipe this morning because I wanted something a bit sweet. I used a combination (equal amounts) of coconut flour and almond flour. I also added a TBSP of coconut flakes into the mix. When cooking on the pan, I plopped 4-5 fresh blueberries on top because I do not like syrup. The added coconut and blueberries made these pancakes delicious!! Will definitely make these again.

I haven’t tried the shaken version, but I took the one out of the freezer that I made a few days ago with my immersion blender and it was frozen, but after leaving it out awhile it was like a frozen was the perfect consistency. I found that it needed more chocolate flavor as it was too lite for me and I didn’t add the chips, but next time I might and will use more cocoa powder. What a wonderful treat to satisfy my ice cream cravings.
On your keto food list, stick to low-glycemic sweeteners to avoid spikes in blood sugar, and avoid fillers and binders such as maltodextrin and dextrose, which can spike blood sugar and contain sneaky carbs. Sugar alcohols such as maltitol or xylitol may read as no sugar on a label, but be aware that they will still cause moderate glycemic response when digested.
Up The Salt:  Normally, the average diet is overloaded with salt, but a ketogenic diet eliminates refined and processed food and focuses on eating whole real food, so when you start keto you will naturally reduce salt intake, which reduces water retention. Since a low carb diet is naturally diuretic, there is no need to worry about water retention so feel free to put the salt back on the table!
Thank you, TJ! Spice is definitely a matter of taste, and I’m glad you liked it. Agree that sour cream takes care of it if it’s a bit too spicy for some family members. (Even my 3 year old eats this with sour cream in it!) I don’t usually drain the beef but you can if you’d like. The water does make it a bit thinner in the pressure cooker, but it’s necessary to avoid burning. I haven’t had it burn if you add the water, but you can add more if you want to be on the safe side and don’t mind the extra liquid. If the water is too “watery” for you, you could also try beef broth instead of the water when using the pressure cooker.
While many, if not most, recipes are difficult to alter to a ketogenic version, we have found that concocting (and even finding) a legitimate keto-friendly chili to be especially challenging. More often than not, the protein gets a little out of control in its ratio to fat, and the net carbs are also unusually high in most chili recipes. However, we have devised one that fits into (or very close to) the ideal macronutrient range. This chili is easy enough to prepare for a beginner cook to prepare, and the flavor of the finished product is superb!

This week we’re introducing a slight fast. We’re going to get full on fats in the morning and fast all the way until dinner time. Not only are there a myriad of health benefits to this, it’s also easier on our eating schedule (and cooking schedule). I suggest eating (rather, drinking) your breakfast at 7am and then eating dinner at 7pm. Keeping 12 hours between your 2 meals. This will help put your body into a fasted state.

I just tried these this morning and the texture is “spot on” from what I remember. My daughter wanted to make sure I remembered what real pancakes taste like so she took a bite and said the same thing, “spot on”. I’ve never been a fan of pancakes but sometimes you just have a craving. This fit the bill. I’ve tried many, many recipes only to chuck the whole thing, but these were amazing. I didn’t have the vanilla protein but I had Julien’s Bakery Blueberry PaleoThin Egg White Protein mix, and they were divine, I even added some bacon crumbles. I strongly suggest following the recipe, don’t overwork and don’t add any more coconut flour than listed or they will become too thick. I’m excited to try them with plain protein and some savory ingredients. I think they will taste like dinner rolls or biscuits easily with a few adaptations. Hello!! Went grain free about two months ago to reverse a chronic illness. Am feeling great but was jonesing for a piece of bread!! Big time!! And that’s what you gave me! I wish I could share the photos I have of this loaf which baked up beautifully!! It is light and airy and tastes mild and yummy. Interestingly, when I toasted it up, a hint of coconut came out (obviously from the coconut flour). Thank you so much for sharing this… sandwich here I come!!
