Pecan sandies were my favorite cookies as a kid but ask I’ve gotten older I prefer a softer bake. That’s why these pecan softies are the perfect blend of nutty pecan flavor with the goodness of a soft baked cookie! With hints of salt and hunks of roasted pecans, this cookie tastes like anything but keto! By making the cookie base in a food processor, you can get a rough chop which leads to a lower calorie yield per cookie, plus its easy cleanup and comes together in minutes! It calls for ...
I’m starting my third day and already down a pound! Happy to see the scale move in the right direction. Your recipes are delicious. Thank you! On a side note, I noticed your comment in one of your other blogs about the processed Atkin products. Couldn’t agree more with you. I did Atkins very successfully about 10 years ago and kept the weight off for a long time. I followed one of Dr. Atkin’s first books. Fast forward to now and here I am trying to lose again. I picked up one of the newest editions of the books and was so disappointed to see they listed those processed items in phase one. I quickly put the book back on the shelf!Your posts and recipes are very motivating and I really appreciate your work. Again, thank you!
Enter these delightfully low carb Keto Silver Dollar Pancakes. They give you all the fluffy scrumptious-ness you’ve come to expect from a pancake without all those daunting carbs. Aside from being low carb they’re easy to make as well. They’re actually no more difficult to make than standard pancakes. Just mix all the ingredients together and pour them into a pan. Simple, painless and oh so tasty!
Ketoconazole in tablet form is indicated to treat serious infections caused by fungi and should be used only when other effective therapy is not available or tolerated. It works by killing the fungus or preventing it from growing. During the 12-month period ending in June 2015, approximately 217,000 patients received dispensed prescriptions for oral ketoconazole from U.S. outpatient retail pharmacies.3 Ketoconazole is only available as a generic. The topical forms of ketoconazole that are applied to the skin or nails have not been associated with liver damage, adrenal problems, or drug interactions.
If you can’t hack the goat milk, in my opinion your next best option is whole cow’s milk…again just be sure you’re okay with the carb content (the 26 grams of carbs per serving may be the only carbs you can consume for the whole day if you’re strictly keto, so obviously you’re going to want to get those carbs from more nutritious whole foods). If you’re going for ketones here, obviously you’re going to want to stick with the heavy whipping cream route.

Diabetic ketoacidosis, DKA A type of metabolic acidosis seen in poorly controlled DM, with 'starvation amidst plenty'; despite hyperglycemia, ↓ insulin makes the excess glucose unavailable to the cells, which rely on lipid metabolites–ketone bodies–for energy, due to incomplete lipid metabolism Clinical Systemic acidosis, ↓ cardiac contractility and vascular response to catecholamines with thready pulse, hypotension, poor organ perfusion and diabetic ketoacidosis may be the presenting sign in previously undiagnosed DM, accompanied by an acute abdomen and marked leukocytosis Lab Ketonuria, ketonemia, hyperglycemia, glycosuria, ↓ pH, ↓ bicarbonate, ↑ anion gap, hyperlipidemia. See Alcoholic ketoacidosis.
To cut the eggy taste in low carb bread I was told by someone to BEAT eggs & milk together, & it worked wonderfully…..BUT since there isn’t any milk called for in this recipe you can’t do that. So, I’m wondering if it would work to use 2 eggs, instead of 3, & then add about 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream to beat the eggs in before adding the other ingredients? The moisture content should be about the same, & the HWCwould be thicker than using water or milk. Might be worth a try.
I made your bread yesterday. You are right–it IS the best tasting keto bread yet! And I’ve made dozens of recipes through the years! I enlarged it–made a recipe and a half, and used a 9×5 glass pan. I confess, I did make a mess of it at one point. I used carton egg whites, and they didn’t do as well as fresh egg whites do. I ended up with a lot of foam on top and liquid on the bottom. I tried adding the dough to it, but had trouble smoothing out the many lumps. Soooo, I used my hand mixer to mix the whole mess. I put it in the pan and decided to just throw it out, thinking it could never turn into a good loaf of bread. But I went ahead and put it in the oven, and it turned out great! The rise was higher than any other almond flour bread I’ve ever made. So it’s obviously a very “forgivable” recipe. Many thanks!!

My principal hope in this article is to provide journalists with a resource to do what basic journalism demands, namely to ensure that stories are scientifically balanced and accurate. At the end of this post I provide contacts for some of the credentialed experts who helped me compile this research. Reporters, please seek out these or other low-carb diet experts so you can provide accurate, up-to-date information for your readers.

A well-balanced keto diet includes enough fat so that you are not hungry after a meal, can go for several hours without eating, and have ample energy. Make sure to increase your intake of fat at the start of your keto journey until your body adapts to using fat and ketones for most of its energy needs. Once you’re fat adapted, let your appetite guide you in cutting back on fat a bit until you reach the point where you can easily maintain the balance between hunger and satiety.
Just found this (link from All Day I Dream About Food on FB), but I’m on it! Starting 3-day kickstart today, then wil jump into week 1 and 2 meal plans. I just want to thank you for putting together something I can realistically follow, not confusing, and has everything I need to know all in one place! I have had a very similar low-carb gluten-free journey to what you describe, and knew that keto was going to be the solution. I had lots of info sources, but even more questions – and you answered them! Thank you, thank you – you ROCK!
Getting more electrolytes from vegetables, such as magnesium and potassium, can also help to minimize headaches, says Grieger. Yet many of our favorite vegetables are “starchy” or high in carbohydrates, such as acorn squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, green peas, and corn, and therefore are avoided by ketogenic dieters. In doing so, these individuals are missing out on key sources of electrolytes. Opt for low-carb, electrolyte-rich fare, such as leafy green vegetables, to replenish these nutrients. Gorin recommends avocado and broccoli, in particular, as potassium sources.
The ketogenic diet is calculated by a dietitian for each child. Age, weight, activity levels, culture, and food preferences all affect the meal plan. First, the energy requirements are set at 80–90% of the recommended daily amounts (RDA) for the child's age (the high-fat diet requires less energy to process than a typical high-carbohydrate diet). Highly active children or those with muscle spasticity require more food energy than this; immobile children require less. The ketogenic ratio of the diet compares the weight of fat to the combined weight of carbohydrate and protein. This is typically 4:1, but children who are younger than 18 months, older than 12 years, or who are obese may be started on a 3:1 ratio. Fat is energy-rich, with 9 kcal/g (38 kJ/g) compared to 4 kcal/g (17 kJ/g) for carbohydrate or protein, so portions on the ketogenic diet are smaller than normal. The quantity of fat in the diet can be calculated from the overall energy requirements and the chosen ketogenic ratio. Next, the protein levels are set to allow for growth and body maintenance, and are around 1 g protein for each kg of body weight. Lastly, the amount of carbohydrate is set according to what allowance is left while maintaining the chosen ratio. Any carbohydrate in medications or supplements must be subtracted from this allowance. The total daily amount of fat, protein, and carbohydrate is then evenly divided across the meals.[37]
Thank you, Jenn! It’s my favorite thing ever when non-keto people like the recipes too. You can definitely add xanthan gum, I have less experience with guar gum. You’d need just a tiny bit of xanthan gum, try 1/4 tsp and see how that goes. You can always add more if that isn’t enough, but the texture won’t be good if it’s too much which is why I recommend starting with just a bit. A little goes a long way!

"You can find a lot of "fat bomb" recipes on the Internet," Wittrock says. "These are very good at satisfying your sweet tooth, and are a great way to increase fat consumption without going over on protein. Also, I'm a huge fan of salted pumpkin seeds and salted sunflower seed kernels. Believe it or not, pork rinds are also a very good keto snack."

Hi Monika. I’m using nutrition information for coconut milk that’s the pure/raw kind (liquid from grated coconut meat), not the kind that’s processed as a ready-to-drink beverage or milk replacement. Nutrition data for both coconut milk and almond milk are obtained from NCC (Nutrition Coordinating Center), which is a comprehensive database operated by the University of Minnesota.
Hi! So, things I learned today making this recipe. #1 – I used the Blender Bottle I make my protein shakes in, worked like a charm. #2 That cute little jar of salt in my pantry looks EXACTLY like that cute little jar of erythritol in my pantry and really should be labeled to make sure nothing like my first batch ever happens again. Holy cow was that awful! Two tablespoons of salt is horrible, my friends! Make sure your pantry items are labeled accordingly. You know how you’re looking forward to licking that spoon after you make this and spoon it into your container? That was me, until I did with that first batch. I’ll probably have nightmares about how awful that was! The second batch, made correctly, is off to a much better start 🙂
The ketogenic diet is a medical nutrition therapy that involves participants from various disciplines. Team members include a registered paediatric dietitian who coordinates the diet programme; a paediatric neurologist who is experienced in offering the ketogenic diet; and a registered nurse who is familiar with childhood epilepsy. Additional help may come from a medical social worker who works with the family and a pharmacist who can advise on the carbohydrate content of medicines. Lastly, the parents and other caregivers must be educated in many aspects of the diet for it to be safely implemented.[5]

Are you using a casserole dish that is too small so the casserole is too thick/tall? The beef is already cooked before you add it to the casserole dish so all you are cooking is the cheese sauce and to ensure the flavour is infused throughout the keto cheeseburger casserole. It should take no longer than 25 minutes. Let’s see if we can figure out what is going wrong here.
For me it is a little different, I stopped eating Bread, rice last year and ofcourse sugar. Then I stopped most of the potatos and pasta. Maybe on of the once a week. Everything fine! Then last month a tried the 5 day water fast, used some salt every day, Keltic salt. The last day at the end I started to feel like having a flu. Before I started the fast, I have to mention, I was in full Keto. So 2 hours before the 5 days ended, I stoped. It took 16 hours to feel better.
The Johns Hopkins Hospital protocol for initiating the ketogenic diet has been widely adopted.[43] It involves a consultation with the patient and their caregivers and, later, a short hospital admission.[19] Because of the risk of complications during ketogenic diet initiation, most centres begin the diet under close medical supervision in the hospital.[9]

It is now evident that high carbohydrate diets increase fasting plasma triglyceride concentrations (47–51) and decrease HDL cholesterol concentrations (52–55). These changes are associated with enhanced atherogenesis (55). However, it has been shown that short-term ketogenic diets improve the lipid disorders that are characteristic of atherogenic dyslipidemia (56). It has also been found that sugary drinks decreased blood levels of vitamin E, thus reducing the amount of antioxidants in the body. It has been proven, beyond a doubt, that disrupting the oxidant-antioxidant status of the cell will lead to various diseases of the body (57).

Followed recipe exactly, even used free-range organic eggs and grass fed butter. Lacking a truly bread-like texture, egg taste overpowers anything put on the slice. Made roughly 12 slices per thickness pictured here. Nutrition facts somewhat accurate in regards to carbs, inaccurate in regards to fat and fiber content, I believe they would be higher than what is described. The cost of the ingredients is relatively high, labor is relatively low, and taste is… well… egg. Not a very well put together recipe, it’s very similar to another recipe I’ve seen as well. I honestly don’t want to eat the rest but that seems wasteful so I guess I’m having it for breakfast for a few days as that is the only thing it could ever work as.
In addition to the seaweed and glycogen carbohydrates mentioned above, the Inuit can access many plant sources. The stomach contents of caribou contain a large quantity of partially digested lichens and plants, which the Inuit once considered a delicacy. They also harvested reindeer moss and other lichens directly. The extended daylight of the arctic summer led to a profusion of plant life, and they harvested plant parts including berries, roots and stems, as well as mushrooms. They preserved some gathered plant life to eat during winter, often by dipping it in seal fat.[71]
Your glycogen stores can still be refilled while on a ketogenic diet. A keto diet is an excellent way to build muscle, but protein intake is crucial here. It’s suggested that if you are looking to gain mass, you should be taking in about 1.0 – 1.2g protein per lean pound of body mass. Putting muscle on may be slower on a ketogenic diet, but that’s because your total body fat is not increasing as much.5Note that in the beginning of a ketogenic diet, both endurance athletes and obese individuals see a physical performance for the first week of transition.

Hi, Teresa K. I stumbled across a new sweetener by accident, called Sola. After reading the info on the Sola website at solasweet.com, I found that one of our local grocery stores carries it, and I decided to try it. It is a little pricier than some of the other sweeteners out there, but it tastes awesome. (In Texas, a 16 oz package retails for $8.99.) I haven’t tried any that tasted like dust to me, but most have a bitter aftertaste, including all of the stevia products. (Swerve was good also, but is very difficult to find in my area, and just as pricey as the Sola.) The Sola website has a $1 coupon, and there is also a $3 rebate on the Ibotta app. (The Sola site didn’t show my local store for the coupon, so I clicked on one of the others, printed the coupon, and it worked just fine.) I have not made this recipe yet, but a close friend has and loved it! She used a blender to powder the Sola.

Around this time, Bernarr Macfadden, an American exponent of physical culture, popularised the use of fasting to restore health. His disciple, the osteopathic physician Dr. Hugh William Conklin of Battle Creek, Michigan, began to treat his epilepsy patients by recommending fasting. Conklin conjectured that epileptic seizures were caused when a toxin, secreted from the Peyer's patches in the intestines, was discharged into the bloodstream. He recommended a fast lasting 18 to 25 days to allow this toxin to dissipate. Conklin probably treated hundreds of epilepsy patients with his "water diet" and boasted of a 90% cure rate in children, falling to 50% in adults. Later analysis of Conklin's case records showed 20% of his patients achieved freedom from seizures and 50% had some improvement.[10]

Keto is a very low carb diet, often it means no more than 20 net carbs a day. I had been low carb for 4 years prior to going keto a year ago, my daily carb intake was 50-70 grams a day and the carbs were coming mostly from non starchy vegetables. But yet even being lower carb than the standard American diet, it wasn’t enough for me to still not crave sugar and carbs.
This was delicious! It will be my new go to easy dinner from now on. I did make a couple of changes though. I swapped the pickles out for jalapenos, doubled the bacon, and added a dollop of Primal Kitchens chipotle lime mayo on top of my serving along with some hot sauce and it was perfect! It reminded me a lot of In-n-Outs animal style cheeseburger.
goofypammy I DID use almond flour since I didn’t have any coconut flour.  I did not experience them being crumbly.  Being heavy…I don’t know.  I’ve since bought coconut flour so I’ll see whether there’s a difference. I did follow some other comments by adding a little vanilla, the 1/2 tsp baking powder, and some cinnamon.  I just know these are really really good!

When the accumulated ketones exceed the body's capacity to extract them, they overflow into urine (ie, ketonuria). If the situation is not treated promptly, a greater accumulation of organic acids leads to frank clinical metabolic acidosis (ie, ketoacidosis), with a significant drop in pH and bicarbonate [4] serum levels. Respiratory compensation for this acidotic condition results in Kussmaul respirations, ie, rapid, shallow breathing (sigh breathing) that, as the acidosis grows more severe, becomes slower, deeper, and labored (air hunger).
Would be curious to receive feedback on any of the above! And if anyone is interested in more info on my future Ketone product which will taste great, have 11.7g of BHB, 30 servings and priced lower than all the competitors, then message me on FB under Rhys Kabra, or email [email protected] for status updates on the upcoming new Brand of Ketone products! :)
Hi Mika, Sorry it didn’t work for you, but it sounds like what you did has different ratios than the recipe. It doesn’t really round out evenly to 6 or 9 servings unfortunately. I haven’t experienced the texture you are describing but have never tried it with those ratios. If they are dry for you, you could try replacing some of the milk with melted butter or a neutral heat-safe oil (like avocado or coconut oil). Adding more vanilla or some add-ins (like blueberries or chocolate chips) can also help.
This was my first time baking anything EVER and it turned out perfectly! I do find that the bread does taste a tad “eggy” but it’s soft and a perfect replacement for sandwich bread. I can finally have grilled cheese sandwiches again!! Next time around, I’ll double the recipe because the bread was smaller than expected. Thanks for this amazing recipe!
Keto bread – as oxymoronic as it sounds – is the real deal. Whether or you go for light and flaky or dense and moist – gluten-free, low-carb bread recipes abound these days. Here are nine of the best keto bread recipes – from the O.G. Bulletproof keto loaf to a keto blueberry lemon breakfast bread. If you’re gunning for a bun for your burger or naan for Indian food, we’ve got you covered there too with the best in keto bread recipes.

Limited information is available regarding the pharmacokinetics of dosing of ketorolac tromethamine in the pediatric population. Following a single intravenous bolus dose of 0.5 mg/kg in 10 children 4 to 8 years old, the half-life was 5.8 ± 1.6 hours, the average clearance was 0.042 ± 0.01 L/hr/kg, the volume of distribution during the terminal phase (Vβ) was 0.34 ± 0.12 L/kg and the volume of distribution at steady state (Vss) was 0.26 ± 0.08 L/kg. The volume of distribution and clearance of ketorolac in pediatric patients was higher than those observed in adult subjects (see Table 1). There are no pharmacokinetic data available for administration of ketorolac tromethamine by the IM route in pediatric patients.

These wonderful little bite-size snacks are packed with sausage and full of flavor with their seasoned coating, making them an ideal appetizer to serve at a Mediterranean-themed meal or speared with cocktail sticks and served as party food. The olives give you a good dose of healthy fats and taste amazing on their own or with a simple low-carb dip.
Long-term compliance is low and can be a big issue with a ketogenic diet, but this is the case with any lifestyle change.  Even though the ketogenic diet is significantly superior in the induction of weight loss in otherwise healthy patients with obesity and the induced weight loss is rapid, intense, and sustained until at least 2 year, the understanding of the clinical impacts, safety, tolerability, efficacy, duration of treatment, and prognosis after discontinuation of the diet is challenging and requires further studies to understand the disease-specific mechanisms.
Looking for a classic breakfast recipe that’s been transformed to fit this routine? Say hello to this option from Food Faith Fitness, which outlines how to make beautiful blueberry muffins within the keto guidelines. It all comes down to the unexpected additions of monk fruit, almond flour, and unsweetened applesauce, which are mixed in with baking powder, sea salt, and the obvious fresh berry. “Stick to nut flours—hazelnut, cashew, etc.—and you’ll have success,” she says.

Just made these, and they were WAY good! I’ve been GF for years, but went keto/sugar free last year, and I’ve been missing pancakes lately. I researched several keto recipes, but they were all either almond flour based, OR coconut flour. (Cream cheese sounds amazing, but I’m strict on overall calories) I kept thinking that a mix of the 2 would be just the right balance of heartiness and fluffiness. Thank you for doing the hard work of creating a perfectly balanced recipe!! They worked even though I used a coarser almond flour! Can’t wait to try it with a finer flour!

Nice and firm. Baked it on the recommended temp, added 6 or 7 minutes. Pressed the middle and it was great. I let it cool. What was nice about it was obviously it’s low carb bread…hurray for that, but it cut well. Got 18 slices easily about 1/2 inch thick without breakage. Most importantly, it wasn’t greasy, or almond tasting overload, just delicious.

Experts warn that the diet is extremely restrictive and not sustainable, and that it can lead to nutritional deficiencies, high cholesterol, or a serious condition called ketoacidosis. But even before long-term problems set in, many people who try the diet report other unpleasant side effects. These side effects even have a name in the weight-loss world: keto flu.

Another difference between older and newer studies is that the type of patients treated with the ketogenic diet has changed over time. When first developed and used, the ketogenic diet was not a treatment of last resort; in contrast, the children in modern studies have already tried and failed a number of anticonvulsant drugs, so may be assumed to have more difficult-to-treat epilepsy. Early and modern studies also differ because the treatment protocol has changed. In older protocols, the diet was initiated with a prolonged fast, designed to lose 5–10% body weight, and heavily restricted the calorie intake. Concerns over child health and growth led to a relaxation of the diet's restrictions.[19] Fluid restriction was once a feature of the diet, but this led to increased risk of constipation and kidney stones, and is no longer considered beneficial.[18]
The BBB, largely formed by the brain capillary endothelial cells, provides a protective barrier between the systemic blood and the extracellular environment of the CNS. Passage of FAs from the blood to the brain may occur either by diffusion or by proteins that facilitate their transport. Studies indicate that FATP-1 and FATP-4 are the predominant FA transport proteins expressed in the BBB based on human and mouse expression studies (Mitchell et al., 2011).
I loved this recipe made it yesterday and had a piece today, it was so good. Made a few changes like adding Carmel syrup sugar free to the filling wasn’t quite enough but will add more next time. I also used almond flour and finely chopped pecans for the crust that were toasted in a pan till golden brown before adding spice and butter. It has a better taste to me.

Although the flavor is a little different than Mom’s version, I’m pretty happy with how this keto chili recipe turned out. It’s super easy to make because you just throw everything in the slow cooker or Instant pot and let it do its thing. Then, just layer on your favorite toppings and you are set to dig-in! We added some diced onion, tomato, avocado and plain coconut yogurt. If you eat dairy, feel free to add on some cheese and/or sour cream.
This is an unbelievable recipe. Unbelievable in a GOOD way! I followed the recipe exactly as stated, and what came out were the most golden, delicious pancakes that seriously rival any I’ve ever had at the best diners. I’d even say these are better. The fat used in the recipe (butter) and in the cooking (coconut oil) add so much in the way of texture and flavor. I made four pancakes out of this recipe. The very first one was a little burned, but that was because I had the heat too high. My fault. I quickly learned, lowered the heat, and the remaining three came out perfect.

I topped mine with sugar free raspberry preserves and sugar free syrup. I use Walton Farms for the syrup and Smuckers (I think) for the preserves. I also experimented on one pancake with some sugar free mini-chocolate chips. Everything about this recipe is a win and they cooked perfectly for me with a pre-heated skillet and letting the batter rest.

Wow! After many, MANY ATROCIOUS low carb anything recipies, I must say that these were delicious! ❤️ I have thought about giving up many times despite good losses because the recipies are so awful, plus I can’t stand Stevia! The only tweak I did was use a single Splenda pack and add cinnamon. I will be following since you are one of the only ones I’ve liked ! Thanks for posting this!

I hold the record for the world’s largest sweet tooth. It’s been measured! I could eat sweets for every meal of the day and go to bed happy. So when I started eating keto, I obviously cut out sugar all together and needless to say, I was irritable. But that was to be expected- sugar is highly addictive and when you take it away after so many years, you get withdrawal symptoms. As with all addictions, it takes time and effort to heal the body. After a few grueling days, maybe a week, the sugar cravings started going away. At the peak of my keto dieting, I never even thought about dessert. My body was running perfectly fine without that brownie for dessert daily.
Protein: When people first reduce carbohydrates in their diets, it doesn't seem as though the amount of protein they eat is as important to ketosis as it often becomes later on. For example, people on the Atkins diet often eat fairly large amounts of protein in the early stages and remain in ketosis. However, over time, some (perhaps most) people need to be more careful about the amount of protein they eat as (anecdotally) the bodies of many people seem to "get better" at converting protein into glucose (gluconeogenesis). At that point, each individual needs to experiment to see if too much protein is throwing them out of ketosis and adjust as necessary.
Going keto might compel you to start experimenting with ingredients you would have never used otherwise. These vegan treats, for example, are held together with aquafaba—the liquid from a can of chickpeas, believe it or not. Still, the shredded coconut and the smooth chocolate on the bottom make them taste like the mouthwatering macaroons you know and love.
Do not give ketoconazole if your pet is being given astemizole (Hismanal), cisapride (Propulsid) or triazolam (Halcion). Dangerous or life threatening events may occur. Before giving ketoconazole, tell your veterinarian about any medications you are giving your pet, especially; cyclosporine (Neoral), methylprednisolone (Medrol), antacids, cimetidine (Tagamet), Nizatidine (Axid), famotidine (pepcid), ranitidine (Zantac), omeprazole (Prilosec), lansoprazole (Prevacid), rabeprazole (Aciphex), digoxin (Lanoxin), warfarin (Coumadin), phenytoin (Dilantin), glipizide (Glucotrol). Drugs other than those listed in this guide may also interact with ketoconazole. Talk to your veterinarian or pharmacist before giving any prescription or over the counter medicines, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products.
Just made these this is my 5th different pancake recipe and this one is the final keeper ,wow did not taste eggy you can't taste the coconut flour it just tastes like a good pancake I opted for the softened cream cheese added just a hint of water because it looked a little bit thick maybe a tablespoon and they came out perfect. Thank you so much living this keto lifestyle one has to pick and choose the right recipes the ingredients are expensive so you want to make sure it's the right one in this is it

Your New York Style Keto Cheesecake recipe looks AMAZING and I’m thinking about making it for Thanksgiving next month but I’m a little confused about the measurements for some of the ingredients. I know enough about baking to know that measurements for baked goods need to be exact (as, say, compared to cooking). I’m not an intuitive baker (or really a baker at all!) How would you suggest I accurately measure 4.17 tbsp (the butter) 0.83 cup (Swerve), 0.63 cup (sour cream), 1.67 tsp (grated lemon zest)?

I tried this bread and found it very good. I have been Gluten Free for 11 years and have been subjected to all kinds of lousy GF bread. Regular GF bread is out on a Keto diet so I was pleased to find this recipe. This slices nicely and toasts well and doesn’t spoil quickly. I didn’t find that it tasted like scrambled eggs at all like someone commented. Perhaps they did not mix it well enough.

I made these last night but used granular Swerve instead, as that is what I had. I was a little light handed with it – so maybe a quarter inch below top on my steel 1 cup measure. I was still worried it would be too sweet due to the difference in granular and confectioners. It actually turned out perfect for us. Husband and I both love them. Crust held together, but was really buttery and a little loose while still warm, but so, so good. Stored in fridge, it firmed up nicely and is delicious cold as well. A great recipe. Will order the powdered erithritol for next time.

Even so, for some reason beyond my understanding, I wanted pancakes. And badly. After looking through dozens of recipes for simple, low carb pancakes, there were a few decent ones but they were incredibly high in calories and required tons of ingredients. I wanted something simple and affordable that doesn’t involve using up a whole cup of almond flour- that stuff’s expensive.
Fluid replacement and insulin therapy are the primary treatments for diabetic ketoacidosis. While in the hospital, you will likely receive fluids and insulin intravenously. Fluids are necessary because this condition can cause excess urination and raise the risk of dehydration. Fluids also replace lost electrolytes, whereas insulin helps stop the production of ketones and allows glucose to absorb into your body’s cells. (6)

hi I have been following this diet have not had any sugar and I just want to know how am I going over the carbs I’m eating vegetables which I know are carbs but I’m not overdoing it. What is the best way to keep up with your carbs fats and proteins also do I need a scale? I feel like I lost weight this week but most of it was probably water weight I was in ketosis on Thursday and today it shows I’m not. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I’m not a huge fan of sweet breakfast, so pancakes are really not something I’d make. But these I like. And by that I mean I get up 15 mins earlier than usual to have time to cook this every single weekday. What I do, is make the pancake batter (skip the stevia and add a pinch of salt) and let it sit while I cook some bacon in the pan. I save the bacon fat, and cook the pancakes in a mixture of bacon fat and coconut oil. Super tasty and keeps me going easily till lunch! I’ve made the sweet ones for dessert crepes, with lots of cinnamon and ground vanilla. Will have to try the apple butter next time. Yum!

This benefit surprised me when I first discovered it, but eating fewer carbohydrates during a workout can actually help you recover from workouts faster. The repair and recovery of skeletal muscle tissue is dependent on the “transcription” of certain components of your RNA. And a bout of endurance exercise combined with low muscle-carbohydrate stores can result in greater activation of this transcription. In other words, by training in a low-carbohydrate state, you train your body to recover faster.
This article is excellent and I’ve actually read it a few times just to make sure I’m absorbing as much as possible. With that said can we talk a bit about protein? Why does it seem like protein is taking a back seat? What about the athlete who needs to maintain and/or increase muscle mass. I don’t want to make any assumptions and with all the research I’ve done along with personal testing into Keto it just seems to me that protein and its benefits are not a discussion point in this diet. Why?
Made this for the first time last evening and wow… so simple, so fast and SO tasty! Hubby loved it too and commented on how delicious it was. I modified the recipe by adding 2T diced canned chili peppers, and topped it with shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream and chopped avocado. I used Pace “medium” salsa and chili powder instead of cayenne (cause I didn’t seem to have any). I’m having it again for lunch, and I can’t wait.
Because the production of ketones spurs the kidneys to remove sodium from your body more quickly, you’ll need to make sure you’re getting enough sodium through your food while on keto. If you don’t, your blood pressure may fall to dangerous levels, Dr. Phinney says. The “pins and needles” feeling and heavy limbs that Alley described may be due to a drop in blood pressure, which reduces blood flow to the limbs, he explains.
Paleo baking is gluten free and grain free. Generally, paleo bread recipes have quite a few more ingredient options than low carb baking. Ingredients like tapioca flour and arrowroot flour are common in paleo baked goods, and help improve the texture greatly. The only thing is, these ingredients are relatively high in carbs and are typically avoided (or at least reduced) in low carb baking. This is why paleo baking can sometimes be a bit easier than low carb and/or keto baking.
Ketorolac tromethamine administered as an IV bolus every 6 hours for 5 days to healthy subjects (n=13), showed no significant difference in Cmax on Day 1 and Day 5. Trough levels averaged 0.29 μg/mL (SD ± 0.13) on Day 1 and 0.55 μg/mL (SD ± 0.23) on Day 6. Steady state was approached after the fourth dose. Accumulation of ketorolac tromethamine has not been studied in special populations (geriatric, pediatric, renal failure or hepatic disease patients).
I found this recipe today while researching keto ice cream and it looked so easy I made it right away. I am lactose intolerant so I used coconut milk (refrigerated, drained of liquid leaving the solid coconut cream), added 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, an extra tablespoon of cocoa powder and a pinch of salt then blended it using my immersion blender. I tasted it before I put it into the freezer and the mixture was incredibly smooth and tasted so good! It will be ready in 2 1/2 hours and I can hardly wait..
Ketoconazole can have negative side effects that you should be aware of before using it. One of the most common side effects is skin irritation, which can take the form of pimple-like bumps where it’s used. In some individuals, it may also cause either oiliness or dryness of the hair or scalp, abnormal hair texture, or discoloration. It can cause permed hair to lose its curl as well.
Increased cortisol levels: The T3 hormonal change is closely connected to a third hormonal change – higher cortisol levels. A ketogenic diet tells your body that you’re in starvation mode. In an effort to increase energy levels on a carb-restricted diet, your body triggers the release of stress hormones, i.e. cortisol. If you experience irritability and insomnia, that’s a clue that your cortisol levels have jumped. Not to worry: as you adjust to utilizing fat and ketones as a new fuel source, your cortisol levels should fall to their old levels.
I have a serious sweet tooth, my boyfriend does not. I didn’t enjoy these pancakes on their own but my boyfriend really liked them. He eats them with cheese melted on top! The texture was similar to a wet, slightly gritty pancake, maybe even french toast. I cooked mine in butter so they did have a nice butter flavor but the egginess was still there. They did get the nice crispy brown edges like pancakes and were “spongey” like a pancake. I think if I make them again, I will add more sugar substitute, maybe some cream cheese, and use one less egg. Thank you for the recipe!
So happy I found your site, out of all the keto sites I’ve clicked on yours is the best!! You actually give us a plan to get started and I love your humor :) I’ve tried living keto before but it was the diet along with a lot of supplements and nasty shakes…it wasn’t for me! I don’t like drinking my snacks and meals just to get into ketosis! Looking forward to trying this again and trying your recipes!

Tried them this morning, used the sugar instead of stevia (hate), next time will only use 1/2, used snickers sugar free grape jelly as my syrup and they were delicious.  Would not have known the difference if not for the coloring, flour and cinnamon makes them darker.  Batter is more than I needed for one meal, so looking forward to tomorrow’s breakfast.  Going to try freezing next babatter.  Thanks for a great recipe.
Has adding more water, salt and fat not helped very much? Are you still feeling achy, tired and off? We recommend you try to endure it for a few more days until the symptoms pass. Research has shown that a very-low-carb diet is best for weight loss and metabolic issues like type 2 diabetes.Keto flu symptoms are only temporary – they’ll be long gone when you are a fat burner.
Now, Week 1’s shopping list is going to be long. I have to make the assumption you have nothing in your house. Many of the items are common items that most people will have already. These are all staples in my everyday cooking for keto, and should be considered an investment for your health. Once you have all of the items from week 1, there won’t be too much else to buy.
Twenty elite ultra-marathoners and ironman distance triathletes performed a maximal graded exercise test and a 180 min submaximal run at 64% VO2max on a treadmill to determine metabolic responses. One group habitually consumed a traditional high-carbohydrate (HC: n = 10, %carbohydrate:protein:fat = 59:14:25) diet, and the other a low-carbohydrate (LC; n = 10, 10:19:70) diet for an average of 20 months (range 9 to 36 months).
The theobromine in the cocoa powder will help balance out the caffeine from the instant coffee, while the fat from the heavy whipping cream slows digestion. Altogether, this will provide you with a steady stream of sustained energy and mood enhancement. In other words, if you need a little pick me up for your mood, your energy, and your health, then don’t skip out on this keto ice cream recipe.
I just tried this recipe this morning because I wanted something a bit sweet. I used a combination (equal amounts) of coconut flour and almond flour. I also added a TBSP of coconut flakes into the mix. When cooking on the pan, I plopped 4-5 fresh blueberries on top because I do not like syrup. The added coconut and blueberries made these pancakes delicious!! Will definitely make these again.

I haven’t tried the shaken version, but I took the one out of the freezer that I made a few days ago with my immersion blender and it was frozen solid.lol, but after leaving it out awhile it was like a frozen milkshake..it was the perfect consistency. I found that it needed more chocolate flavor as it was too lite for me and I didn’t add the chips, but next time I might and will use more cocoa powder. What a wonderful treat to satisfy my ice cream cravings.
On your keto food list, stick to low-glycemic sweeteners to avoid spikes in blood sugar, and avoid fillers and binders such as maltodextrin and dextrose, which can spike blood sugar and contain sneaky carbs. Sugar alcohols such as maltitol or xylitol may read as no sugar on a label, but be aware that they will still cause moderate glycemic response when digested.
Up The Salt:  Normally, the average diet is overloaded with salt, but a ketogenic diet eliminates refined and processed food and focuses on eating whole real food, so when you start keto you will naturally reduce salt intake, which reduces water retention. Since a low carb diet is naturally diuretic, there is no need to worry about water retention so feel free to put the salt back on the table!
Thank you, TJ! Spice is definitely a matter of taste, and I’m glad you liked it. Agree that sour cream takes care of it if it’s a bit too spicy for some family members. (Even my 3 year old eats this with sour cream in it!) I don’t usually drain the beef but you can if you’d like. The water does make it a bit thinner in the pressure cooker, but it’s necessary to avoid burning. I haven’t had it burn if you add the water, but you can add more if you want to be on the safe side and don’t mind the extra liquid. If the water is too “watery” for you, you could also try beef broth instead of the water when using the pressure cooker.
While many, if not most, recipes are difficult to alter to a ketogenic version, we have found that concocting (and even finding) a legitimate keto-friendly chili to be especially challenging. More often than not, the protein gets a little out of control in its ratio to fat, and the net carbs are also unusually high in most chili recipes. However, we have devised one that fits into (or very close to) the ideal macronutrient range. This chili is easy enough to prepare for a beginner cook to prepare, and the flavor of the finished product is superb!

This week we’re introducing a slight fast. We’re going to get full on fats in the morning and fast all the way until dinner time. Not only are there a myriad of health benefits to this, it’s also easier on our eating schedule (and cooking schedule). I suggest eating (rather, drinking) your breakfast at 7am and then eating dinner at 7pm. Keeping 12 hours between your 2 meals. This will help put your body into a fasted state.

I just tried these this morning and the texture is “spot on” from what I remember. My daughter wanted to make sure I remembered what real pancakes taste like so she took a bite and said the same thing, “spot on”. I’ve never been a fan of pancakes but sometimes you just have a craving. This fit the bill. I’ve tried many, many recipes only to chuck the whole thing, but these were amazing. I didn’t have the vanilla protein but I had Julien’s Bakery Blueberry PaleoThin Egg White Protein mix, and they were divine, I even added some bacon crumbles. I strongly suggest following the recipe, don’t overwork and don’t add any more coconut flour than listed or they will become too thick. I’m excited to try them with plain protein and some savory ingredients. I think they will taste like dinner rolls or biscuits easily with a few adaptations. THANK YOU for the inspiration and tastiness!

Hello!! Went grain free about two months ago to reverse a chronic illness. Am feeling great but was jonesing for a piece of bread!! Big time!! And that’s what you gave me! I wish I could share the photos I have of this loaf which baked up beautifully!! It is light and airy and tastes mild and yummy. Interestingly, when I toasted it up, a hint of coconut came out (obviously from the coconut flour). Thank you so much for sharing this… sandwich here I come!!

In its 2016 report “Healthy Eating Guidelines & Weight Loss Advice,” the Public Health Collaboration, a U.K. nonprofit, evaluated evidence on low-carbohydrate, high-fat diets. (The Keto diet falls under the LCHF umbrella.) Among 53 randomized clinical trials comparing LCHF diets to calorie-counting, low-fat diets, a majority of studies showed greater weight loss for the Keto-type diets, along with more beneficial health outcomes. The collaboration recommends weight-loss guidelines that include a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet of real (rather than processed) foods as an acceptable, effective and safe approach.
