This chili is really really good, and yes spicy! I used 2 lbs of 7% lean turkey instead. I did add a little water and was able to get 10 full cups of chili- definitely not 16- and with putting everything into My Fitness Pal the carb count is a lot higher than I wanted – about 13 net carbs per serving. Next time I will cut corners with the tomato paste etc to cut carbs..
So excited that after 24hours I’m in Keto, Yea!! I need to know if I can have Chicken salad instead of Tuna salad? I’m allergic to Tuna. I bought Bumble Bee Chicken breast in water. I’m going to continue with your 12 week plan when I’m finished with this 3 day plan. So far everything is so yummy and that makes a huge difference. I’m certain I will like some things more than others but so far I am super happy. I have a fatty liver and am 60lbs overweight but the good news is no damage has started so if I lose the weight I’m sure the liver will get better and I will look and feel better too!
I’ve made these several times for my diabetic husband.  He loves them.  He is recovering from heart surgery so I make these with egg whites & they come out terrific.  I can make the mix & store it in the refrigerator & he makes them himself each morning.  We have a nonstick pan but we still have to spray it with coconut Pam.  I’ve also stored the pre made pancakes & he just warms them up. Either way no loss in texture or flavor.
Well, we don’t really know why some people feel so bad after this dietary change. Is it related to a detox factor? Is it due to a carb withdrawal? Is there an immunologic reaction? Or is this a result of a change in the gut microbiome? Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, if you have had severe vomiting or diarrhea or think you may be dehydrated, and if you are taking angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors such as benazepril (Lotensin, in Lotrel), captopril, enalapril (Vasotec, in Vaseretic), fosinopril, lisinopril (in Zestoretic), moexipril (Univasc), perindopril (Aceon, in Prestalia), quinapril (Accupril, in Quinaretic), ramipril (Altace), and trandolapril (Mavik, in Tarka); or diuretics ('water pills'). If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop taking ketorolac and call your doctor: swelling of the hands, arms, feet, ankles, or lower legs; unexplained weight gain; confusion; or seizures.
The beauty of salmon is that you can cook it with marginal interference. There are so many tricks, shortcuts, and gimmicks out there on achieving optimal ketosis – I’d suggest you don’t bother with any of that. Optimal ketosis can be accomplished through dietary nutrition alone (aka just eating food). You shouldn’t need a magic pill to do it. Just stay strict, remain vigilant, and be focused on recording what you eat (to make sure your carb and protein intake are correct).
My husband has been on a strictly Keto diet since June. Even though he has lost at least twenty pounds and feels terrific, he’d become bored with eating the same things over and over. Total catastrophe but I’m new at this type of cooking and I blew it. I didn’t have any avocado oil but I had “any other neutral flavor oil”- coconut oil. Doubled the recipe, added the slightly warm oil, added the other ingredients (slightly cool). The oil solidified when it hit the other ingredients and there was no recovery. Should have tried to make a “corn bread/cake out of it. It smelled great while I was scooping it out onto the compost pile. Very expensive mistake.

I’ve been looking for a no machine type of recipe that doesn’t have me stirring the mixture every 5 minutes while it freezes in the freezer, which sounds unreasonable… not to mention hard on my arm, lol! A great benefit of being keto adapted is that if  you eat a cheat meal or fall off the wagon for a day or two, you will re-enter ketosis much faster. When your body is primed to use fat for fuel, it will more readily do so when reintroduced than someone who has just started a low carb diet. This comes in quite handy when one is fasting. Ketoconazole can have negative side effects that you should be aware of before using it. Thank you, Ashlee! To keep the texture the same, use lemon zest or lemon extract. Lemon juice isn’t potent enough and you’d need so much that the texture would change. I haven’t tested the amount of lemon zest or extract yet, but I’d try about a tablespoon of zest or 1 1/2 tsp of extract. You can add it before adding the eggs and taste (since there are no raw ingredients before adding eggs). Just keep in mind that at that stage you’ll want it more potent than the end result, since the eggs will dilute it a little. Let me know how it goes!

After all the wonderful reviews, I HAD to try these! I made them into waffles. I have a large, 4 square waffle iron. It made two pretty full waffles – so 8 squares. They were beauties! I used my bullet to mix the batter, omitted the cinnamon and maple extract, and baked the first batch as is. They were tender, *fragile*, but good. The second waffle, I sprinkled a generous amount of cooked bacon pieces on top of the batter and baked them until the steam stopped. They were FABULOUS! My husband and I thought we liked them so much better with the bacon because we feel like the recipe needs a bit of salt, so I will add that the next time I make them. And, I will DEFINITELY be making them again! Finally – a recipe that could “pass” for the full carb version! THANK YOU!!!

I added a couple of teaspoons of psyllium husks to my second batch to make it a little more ‘bready.’ My husband, who hates eggs, even said it was ok and used it as a sandwich wrap. My second was sweetened and I had 1/4 cup each of raspberries and blackberries (very low carb for fruit) with a couple of teaspoons of heavy cream (too lazy to whip it :). As I wrote in op-eds for the Wall Street Journal61 and Medscape,62 the Lancet Public Health study is based on very thin data. The questionnaire underlying the report left out questions regarding popular foods, such as pizza and energy bars, and did not consider alcohol consumption. Moreover, the “low-carb” diet group in this study included people eating up to 37% of calories as carbohydrates—not low-carb according to the latest science. Ultimately, this is the kind of data that can show association but not establish causation, which means it is the kind of data one can use to generate hypotheses but not prove them. This kind of data would never be considered sufficient to approve a drug, for instance. The same standards should be applied to diet. Quite a few researchers, including myself, had our critiques published in Lancet Public Health.63 The authors replied but did not respond to most of the criticisms.

A seizure can be focal (confined to one part of the brain) or generalised (spread widely throughout the brain and leading to a loss of consciousness). Epilepsy can occur for a variety of reasons; some forms have been classified into epileptic syndromes, most of which begin in childhood. Epilepsy is considered refractory (not yielding to treatment) when two or three anticonvulsant drugs have failed to control it. About 60% of patients achieve control of their epilepsy with the first drug they use, whereas around 30% do not achieve control with drugs. When drugs fail, other options include epilepsy surgery, vagus nerve stimulation, and the ketogenic diet.[7]
You must buy good quality eggs for this keto ice cream taste great (along with good quality vanilla). Eat more.  Your calories being too low in general can also lead to keto flu symptoms.  Be sure you aren’t reducing your calorie intake too much. Try not to go low-carb and low-fat. You will not achieve weight loss any faster, but instead, run the risk of weight loss stopping and feeling hungry, irritable and lethargic. The best part of low carb eating is that you can still have rich, savory foods – dieting isn’t really a part of the lifestyle. Your body regulates your hunger naturally, so keeping your carbs low is the main concern. Being able to do that while still enjoying roast, fish, and big, healthy salads is what makes low carb so easy to stick with, and keep the weight off for good.
You can make your own “maple” syrup easily. Here’s what I do: Combine 1/2 cup monkfruit sweetener, 1/2 cup Erythritol and 1/2 tsp. Xanthan gum. Mix the Xanthan gum into the dry ingredients to prevent clumping. Add 1 cup cold water, and heat, stirring, until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat and add maple extract to taste (I think I used 1-2 Tablespoons, but now I can’t remember, and I didn’t write it down.). Let it cool and you have about 1 1/2 cups syrup. * You can really use just one sweetener, or any combination of two sweeteners you want. I find combining two different ones makes it more sweet, with less bitter aftertaste. Next time I make it, I’m going to try the Swerve Golden and see what that does. But this keeps for a long time, and I don’t use much at a time.

A simple standby, but one that ketoers adore. 2 or 3 fried eggs and some bacon might not sound like much, but it’s full of protein that will keep you full and energized all morning. Take the opportunity on the weekend to lay your bacon strips on a single cookie sheet and bake in the oven for 20 minutes at 400 degrees. The result is the best bacon you’ve ever had, in a big batch, with no sitting over a popping, hissing frying pan.

It’s important to get in your vegetables when doing keto, and this chili recipe offers some flexibility for that. For instance, in one iteration I threw in a few handfuls of chopped kale when I added the stock (it was delicious, by the way.) Other possibilities are to add zucchini or green pepper when sautéeing the onions. Just be sure to check on the carb counts for these vegetables and adjust the final carb numbers accordingly.

Alyssa, one more thing. Both the bowl and the beaters need to be spotlessly clean. If there is one hint of oil anywhere the whites will not beat properly. Nicole is correct about not using a plastic bowl. Plastic will even absorb oil to say nothing of the microscopic amounts that get into the surface when it’s scratched. When baking it is always best to use a metal or glass bowl for all of your mixing.
I just made these and they were good! Definitely reminded me of French toast. For those who say the mixture is too runny, I think the egg size makes a difference. I had to add an additional ounce of cream cheese after mixing my ingredients because it was runny. I used extra large eggs. The next time I will use 4oz cream cheese for 2 extra large eggs. I also added a teaspoon of vegan protein powder, a pouch of baking powder, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. For syrup, I mixed a teaspoon of butter with a teaspoon of coconut butter, vanilla extract, and two drops of stevia. Next time I will add a teaspoon of blueberries to the syrup mix. Delicious!!!

I saw this recipe yesterday morning, and thought “I will have to make those one of these days”. Then yesterday afternoon, I saw an advertisement for IHOP cream cheese crepes, and instantly thought of your recipe, and thought, “I could use that to make these!”. So this morning, I made the cream cheese crepes with Splenda, mixed some frozen (thawed and warmed)peaches with some DaVinci’s Sugar-Free French Vanilla syrup, and plop the fruit on the crepe, folded it over, put some Cool Whip on, added some bacon to the side, and presented it to my husband. Hi Kristi, I’m glad you liked the taste! Sorry it didn’t rise for you. It’s hard to say what happened without being in the kitchen with you. Were the peaks in the egg whites not firm enough, or did they fall too much when folding with the rest of the batter? That is the main culprit I can think of, as the egg whites are a big part of what creates the volume in this bread.
It is interesting to note that the KB are capable of producing more energy than glucose due to the changes in mitochondrial ATP production induced by KB (Kashiwaya et al., 1994; Sato et al., 1995; Veech, 2004). During fasting or KD glycaemia, though reduced, remains within physiological levels (Seyfried and Mukherjee, 2005; Paoli et al., 2011). This euglycemic response to extreme conditions comes from two main sources: glucogenic amino acids and glycerol liberated via lysis from triglycerides (Vazquez and Kazi, 1994; Veldhorst et al., 2009). Glucogenic amino acids (neoglucogenesis from amino acids) are more important during the earlier phases of KD, while the glycerol becomes fundamental as the days go by. Thus, the glucose derived from glycerol (released from triglyceride hydrolysis) rises from 16% during a KD to 60% after a few days of complete fasting (Vazquez and Kazi, 1994). According to Bortz (1972) 38% of the new glucose formed from protein and glycerol is derived from glycerol in the lean while 79% in the obese (Bortz et al., 1972). It is important to note that during physiological ketosis (fast or very low calorie ketogenic diets) ketonemia reaches maximum levels of 7–8 mmol/L with no change in blood pH, while in uncontrolled diabetic ketoacidosis blood concentration of KBs can exceed 20 mmol/L with a consequent lowering of blood pH (Robinson and Williamson, 1980; Cahill, 2006) (Table ​(Table11).
From concept to finished product this recipe took us about 2 weeks. We’re fast approaching holiday season, and that means we spend every waking hour perfecting Thanksgiving recipes. While macros will differ a little from person to person, the general rule of thumb for keto is to keep carbohydrates under 5% of your daily caloric intake. As long as you avoid the foods mentioned above, you should be fine. Google “TDEE calculator” if you need some additional guidance on how many calories to eat. I’ve had success following this way of eating as it allows me to eat foods that taste great. There are tons of resources online as well if you need additional guidance. A quick google search should turn up a ton of resources. Hope this helps!
I’ve about lost my mind over this one. It tastes the most like the real think I’ve tried. I’ve made it three times in 2 weeks and sent it to everyone I know who is low carb. Made it with and without the crust and it’s awesome both ways. Made minis the first time -awesome! I had a minor tweak because I ran out of Swerve. I used 1 cup of that and 1/4 cup splenda plus I doubled the lemon. So, so good. Thank you!
As a diabetic and lactose intolerant, this is the only way I can eat ice cream. I add unsweetened cocoa and extra aspartame to make a wonderful chocolate ice cream, then I add chopped up bananas or 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract – yum! I made this yesterday! The flavor was wonderful, but I think maybe I didn’t let it simmer long enough. I have a fear of burning milk products LOL. It was still very good. I used heavy cream for the whole thing, but next time I might use almond milk for the first 2 cups to lighten it a bit. I scarfed up the serving, which I topped with fresh blueberries. Oh so good! And super easy to make. Can’t wait to put my fresh strawberries on it tonight for my dessert!

Crack aside, my fake-sugar-hating gluten-loving type II diabetic father did not know that this was Keto and said he loved it; he was completely fooled. Needless to say, I’m definitely making this for my friends shower, and my husband advised me to not say anything to anyone about how there’s no carbs or gluten except the lady of honor! I know she’s really excited to be able to eat (and enjoy) dessert on her special day!
No Margaret, I didn’t even think to run some water over the silicone cups … duh! Anyway, I love this recipe. I added instant coffee crystals as Van suggested and loved it! This is just my personal opinion, but I think the ice cream is best eaten after it has frozen for several hours … it doesn’t get rock hard and is sooooo creamy! 🙂 Oh, and I am using my immersion blender and see no difference is the finished product, either. However, when grandkids are visiting we’ll use the 5-minute shaking jar method! 🙂

THANK YOU!!! I was also a tad confused with the serving size stating 1 pancake…thought I had just eaten 10 carbs. I then looked again and the note at the bottom in bold stated nutrition PER BATCH. Whew! Under serving size, you could put per batch maybe?? Regardless, was ready to pull my hair out if I had to eat another omelette/scramble, etc! My sweet tooth is satisfied right now!
Made these today for the kiddos e-learning day brunch. They were a hit with even the big kid aka Hubby. I did use coconut oil, and added some cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla cream stevia drops to the mix. Also used sugar free chocolate chips while cooking. All approved which surprised me as I am the only one on a low carb woe. Slowly converting the family. LOL! Thank you!
I’m not an egg eater. I can eat quiches, breakfast casseroles, and egg scrambles with A LOT of things mixed in to hide the egg taste, but if it tastes like plain scrambled eggs, then I am likely to gag. Going low carb has been easier than I thought it would be, but I now crave things that I didn’t really eat before. The closest IHOP is 400 miles away, and I’ve been wanting pancakes ever since going low carb. I used to eat pancakes about 3 times a year, but now I dream about stacks of fluffy goodness slathered with real butter and thick, gooey, syrup cascading over the side of a mile high stack. Like a petulant child,I don’t like eggs, I don’t like cinnamon, and stevia in the tiniest amount is overwhelmingly sweet to me. I love cream cheese though! Like the cooked spinach, brussels spouts, and beef liver of my childhood, I looked at this recipe with much trepidation. How can cream cheese and eggs combine to taste like America’s most beloved, highest carb, Sunday breakfast standard?
I found these to be delicious and easy to flip in the pan. DH really liked them too and he usually only likes things made “the normal way.” The cinnamon is a nice addition that is very subtle but very good! I didn’t have any sugar-free syrup as I think it all tastes awful, so I heated up some frozen blueberries/blackberries/raspberries and sprinkled with a little stevia. Then mashed them up and spooned on top. Yummo!!!! Next time I will whip up some heavy cream with sweetener too dollop on top too. This one is a keeper–thanks!!!!

MissE, I did a Medifast-type diet (medically supervised fast) for 7 months — I ate no normal food during that time, only their shakes and soups. It works, believe me — I lost 130 lb. I was good for a couple of months, but then the weight started creeping back and after a while I was right back where I started. It was heartbreaking, but I wasn’t alone — I know many people who have done it and gained all the weight back. The problem is that it doesn’t teach you how to eat differently. Keto does.

Hi Melissa! I’ve been on track for 4 days now and have actually been feeling pretty good except for fatigue. I’ve been follwing the plan to a “T” but after 4 days I don’t think i’m in ketosis yet. Could some people take a few days longer than others? I’m going to test again in a couple days (or how often should you test? Does morning have more ketones than evening?) and hopefully I am up. Sometimes it is hard to read the strips but I know I am negative to minimal ketones at this point.
We know the keto diet restricts carbohydrates, but what can you eat? Actually carbohydrates are allowed, but in very small amounts — less than 30 grams per day (for perspective, a medium apple contains about 25 grams of carbs). The diet focuses on meats, eggs, cheese, fish, nuts, butters, oil, heavy cream, mayonnaise and low-carb vegetables such as kale and broccoli. 
The gut-brain link is important not only for the hormones produced by the gut, but also for the long-term body weight regulation. Studies in mice indicate that the gut microbiome influences both sides of the energy balance by contributing to nutrient absorption and regulating host genes that affect adiposity [however there are conflicting reports (Parks et al., 2013; Schele et al., 2013)]. A cohort study has demonstrated that the nutrient load is a key variable that can influence the gut/fecal bacterial content over short time frames. Furthermore, the observed associations between gut microbes and nutrient absorption indicates a possible role of the human gut microbiota in the regulation of the nutrient intake and utilization (Jumpertz et al., 2011).
Grass fed butter does cost a bit more, but it’s more humane for the animals, and contains less unhealthy artificial ingredients or hormones. It is much higher in quality, and tends to have higher amounts of omega 3 and omega 6. So I was following a ketogenic plan for the past month in an effort to lose about 4-5% body fat and try to turn down the inflammation in my body to help with my hashimotos and psoriasis. I don’t eat meat, so it was ALOT of eggs (from the farmers market), primal mayo, wild caught salmon and cold smoked lox (vital choice), brain octane oil, coconut oil, avocado oil with VERY little carbs…like 85% fat, 10% protein and 5% TOTAL carbs. I was eating about 1100-1200cal per day and BELOW 18g TOTAL carbs…Couldn’t get above .6 in AM fasted blood ketones or below 80 fasted blood sugar. I do 90min of Ashtanga yoga (primary and half of second series) 5 days a week and 20-30min weight/HIIT style workouts about 3-4 days per week (Kettlebell, jump rope, plyometrics and free weights). I take Concentrac Trace Minerals along with my d3/k2, l-carnitine, l-glutamine, forskollei, green pastures butter/cod liver oil and probiotics. I have been at the Bulletproof Conference this weekend and I bought the new Bulletproof exogenous Ketones to try.
I tried this recipe and it is not at all easy to incorporate 1/2 the egg whites in the food processor. When attempting to pulse just 2-3 times, only part of the egg whites incorporated, leaving 1/2 the whipped egg whites still sitting at the top of the mixture. I then had to use a spatula to force it down and pulsed 3 more times and ended up with a heavy batter because the egg whites completely fell. Then trying to fold the mixture into the rest of the egg whites was like trying to fold in cookie dough. The result was a loaf of baked eggs whites that had clumps of batter in the middle.

I am so upset with this recipe… I followed this recipe exactly put the eggs cream cheese and vanilla and  the 1 Tb water in my vitamix then added the dry ingredients and it was a crumbly mess and NOT liquid AT ALL !!… I added 1 more egg thinking my 2 eggs weren’t lrg enough but that did little to nothing .. I ended up having to add hwc and more water to just get it to the consistency of pourable batter ., however the batter now would not let me flip them w/o them completely falling apart.. What the heck…your recipe states 1 Tb of water how can batterbe made  with 1 Tb liquid with 2/3 cup flour … SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG
In a mixing bowl, add the cream cheese and the sour cream together, along with the vanilla essence, sugar substitute (natvia) and the lemon zest. Add 1 Egg to the bowl and begin to mix together (I use electric beaters to get a good consistency). As the mixture begins to mix slightly, add another egg and continue to mix. Add the last egg and continue to mix.
ometimes you just have a craving for cheesecake.  The great thing about the Keto diet is that cheesecake is a delicious dessert we can indulge in nearly guilt free.  High in fat, moderate in protein and low in carbs it’s actually a pretty complete Keto food.  To be completely honest I’ve eaten cheesecake for breakfast on Keto and felt no remorse.  
Hi, Teresa K. I stumbled across a new sweetener by accident, called Sola. After reading the info on the Sola website at solasweet.com, I found that one of our local grocery stores carries it, and I decided to try it. It is a little pricier than some of the other sweeteners out there, but it tastes awesome. (In Texas, a 16 oz package retails for $8.99.) I haven’t tried any that tasted like dust to me, but most have a bitter aftertaste, including all of the stevia products. (Swerve was good also, but is very difficult to find in my area, and just as pricey as the Sola.) The Sola website has a $1 coupon, and there is also a $3 rebate on the Ibotta app. (The Sola site didn’t show my local store for the coupon, so I clicked on one of the others, printed the coupon, and it worked just fine.) I have not made this recipe yet, but a close friend has and loved it! She used a blender to powder the Sola.

Search egg substitutes. I like flaxseed that I grind in a coffee mill, one tablespoon to 3 tablespoons water for each egg. Let that soak while you are preparing the rest of the. You can also use flaxseeds for a flour. I bought a bag of it from country life natural foods in Putnam Michigan online. They have lots of non GMO and organic food and their peanuts, they say, are non GMO. You can mix half almond flour or use it alone, I guess, and it has a better flavor. I am surprised they don’t ask for salt in the bread recipe but I add a teaspoon or less , since the butter is salted.

Thanks for sharing! First time making cheesecake – I’m actually new to liking cheesecake. Could be because I’m pregnant and my tastebuds have changed. But I’ve been craving it lately, and I am on a strict low carb diet. This is perfect! I didn’t have raspberries, so I tried a slice this afternoon w/natural PB. Delicious! Also, I think the crust could be a great low carb crust for other desserts, like chocolate cream pie! (Hint, Hint)
Remove the vanilla bean and sprinkle xanthan gum little by little and blend until fully combined. If paleo and using arrowroot, dissolve it first in a tablespoon of cold water (i.e. make a slurry). You will likely have some air bubbles, but be sure to check there are no lumps. Any lumps will be resolved by mixing with an immersion blender (or in an actual blender). Sieve the mixture to a bowl, cover with a layer of cling film (saran wrap) laid directly over the vanilla mixture, and allow the mixture to cool completely. The texture will be thick and jelly-like (don't worry, your ice cream won't have this texture!).

Sadly, I must be a measurement conversion idiot. Would you mind sharing what 2 Oz of Almond Flour and 2oz of cream equal to in the standard measuring system? I’m guessing it’s approximately 1/3 cup of each? I made the hubby rush to the store for syrup with a promise of pancakes as a reward but now…I’m googling conversion measurements and feeling stupid.
It has recently been proposed that the ARC is required for the coordination of homeostatic circadian systems including temperature and activity. Wiater et al. showed that the leptin-sensitive network is required for entrainment of activity by photic cues and entrainment of temperature by food but is not required for entrainment of activity by food or temperature by photic cues (Wiater et al., 2013).
Version two was almond flour only. Right away I could tell the recipe would need some modifications. Almond flour doesn’t soak up nearly as much liquid as coconut flour, resulting in a very soupy batter. I added two more tablespoons of almond flour, which was double the amount of coconut flour, and it still wasn’t nearly as thick. After its short stint in the microwave, this bread turned out very moist, soft, and rather flimsy, but was pleasantly bland enough to go with any filling I wanted.
Just tried these pancakes. I’ve been following a keto plan for 10 months now and I continue to search for good breakfast options. Its the only meal that I still struggle for variety and often feel like I am ‘missing’ something. I have tried other recipes which have been just OK for the moment and have continued to search for better options. The blend of coconut and almond flour seems to do the trick. I cut the recipe in half for a first try and still have plenty to reheat during the week. If they reheat well, I will be sure to make a full batch next time. Thank you so much.
